During my travels around Latvia this summer, I came across this tomb stone from 1591 in a church in Cēsis. On the plaque Anna, the wife of a local governor, was dressed as a nun, and the old Polish text says “I lay my bones in the grave to honor the God, but my soul I dedicate to his almightiness”.
I tried to find anything about her, but she’s remaining a mystery. It stayed with me, this image of a woman forever put into stone as a nun. And this is how I see her beneath.
